Suggested Filter Settings for Young Children
We suggest the strongest possible settings for young children and total adult supervision.
The Child (0-8) Template blocks many objectional Web sites. You may also want to switch to
a "white-list" only setting, where only sites listed in the Allow List can be viewed.
To activate the white-list only setting, follow these steps:
- Login to your account
- Select Manage Services from the My Account section
- Click on the Parental Controls tab at the top
- Select your child's profile (If you do not have a separate profile setup for your child
you'll want to create one)
- Click on the Allow Sites tab in the middle
- Check Only allow the web sites listed in the Allowed list at the bottom
- Type web address of any approved sites.
- Click the Add button.
- Repeat as necessary.
- Click Save.
Note: We recommend that you have the password override enabled (at least during the initial
process) in order to add new sites to the allow list. The address of any blocked sites will
be listed before you type your password. To enable password override:
- Login to your account
- Select Manage Services from the My Account section
- Click on the Parental Controls tab at the top
- Select your child's profile
- Click on the Options tab in the middle
- In the Block / Warn / Monitor Option, select Block sites.
- Make sure Password Override is turned ON
- Enter a Secondary Password only if you want your child to be able to
be able to bypass the block page for sites blocked by category.
DO NOT give your child access to your administrative password.
- Click Save
Suggested Settings for Teenage Children
Note: A responsible adult(s) should be the only one(s) with the password. Please
be sure you have a password that is not easy to guess. A letter-number combination
is highly recommended. Your children probably know you as well as anyone and; therefore,
are likely to guess pet names, middle names, school names, or acronyms made from
the first letters of your children’s name.
The Bsecure Internet Filter comes with default settings that are ideal for most teenagers.
You may want to modify the allow-list or block-list depending on your child’s individual
need and your family values and standards.
It is recommended that the Activity Monitoring option be utilized.
Suggested Settings for College Age Children
Occasionally, a college student will need access to Web sites that may be blocked
under normal circumstances and; therefore, a secondary password is warranted.
Due to the incredible temptations facing today’s teens, we recommend college age
teens have an accountability partner (roommate) that will have the password.
It is recommended that the Activity Monitoring option be utilized.
Suggested Settings for Spouses
In cases where the filter is used to protect a spouse from temptation, it is recommended
that the other spouse have the password. (In cases where both spouses have issues
with pornography, gambling, or some other addictive behavior, we recommend the settings
in the Addiction Settings section below.)
It is recommended that the Activity Monitoring option be utilized.
For an increased security level, the account may be flagged so that password retrieval
can be only be done to the designated spouse. If you wish to utilize this option, please
call customer support and notify them of this request.
